Published in conjunction with the artist’s first solo exhibition in Japan, this book features a wide range of works centered around the pieces shown in the exhibition. It includes Upritchard’s colorful and humorous sculptures, gentle drawings, and numerous installation views from the show. Also included are two specially commissioned texts: a bizarre and highly original newly written story by David Mitchell, renowned author of Cloud Atlas, and an insightful essay by Turner Prize–winning artist Simon Starling, who reflects deeply on cultural translation while attempting to write about what might be called "Upritchardian."
Designed by Åbäke, a multinational design collective based in London, the book features a unique bilingual format: Japanese text opens from the right, and English from the left, with the content designed to meet and intersect at the center.
