This is the catalogue of an exhibition held from March 13 to June 12,2005, featuring works by multiple artists around the theme of “landscape.”
The concept of "landscape" carries a wide range of images that vary depending on the era, region, and individual perspective. In other words, “landscape” is something unique to each individual—reconstructed in the mind from phenomena perceived through various sensory organs—and is also expressed in diverse ways as a reflection of personal consciousness. This exhibition uses works that express the concept of “landscape” in diverse ways as a conduit for exploring what “landscape” means, inviting viewers to see and reflect on various worlds through the lens of landscape. Why not take a stroll—or a cruise—through the diverse horizons of “landscape”?
(From the exhibition introduction)

The diverse body of works—ranging from painting, sculpture, and photography to video and sound art—is organized into two sections: Alternative Landscapes and Invisible Landscapes. Alternative Landscapes emerge through the works as they evoke boundless, unknown worlds, while Invisible Landscapes unfold within the self—expanding through consciousness and   memory. This exhibition invites viewers to reconsider the concept of “landscape,” something once taken for granted in our everyday lives, by revealing new perspectives and previously unseen aspects, presenting a deeply thought-provoking theme that leaves lingering questions and impressions.

The catalog features striking plates of works by 21 artists from both Japan and abroad, ranging from painters active before World War II to cutting-edge contemporary artists. Each work is accompanied by a corresponding text. Additionally, a DVD containing four works by Masakatsu Takagi—an artist known for his wide-ranging activities across genres using video and music—is included, making this a particularly rich and valuable catalog.
