This is a bone china plaque featuring Mademoiselle M (1940), one of Inokuma’s most iconic works.
The model for this work is a Hungarian woman named Madeleine, with whom the Inokuma couple were socially acquainted during their time in Paris.
At the time, Paris was under the shadow of World War II, yet Inokuma continued to paint despite the pressing circumstances. This work ultimately became his last piece produced during his stay in Paris.
The work is painted primarily in shades of blue, conveying a sense of the tense atmosphere of the time.
