2011年に金沢と東京を巡回し、当館でその第3弾として開催(2012年7月15日－9月23日)した、写真家ホンマタカシの個展「ホンマタカシ ニュー･ドキュメンタリー」の展覧会カタログです。
被写体との独特の距離が生み出す緊張感や感情を上乗せしないドライな写真表現で知られるホンマタカシ。本展は、メディアやジャンルの枠にとらわれず写真を発表してきたホンマが、プリント作品はもちろん、シルクスクリーンや本、絵画等、様々な手法を用いた作品を展示。表現と記録の間を行き来するホンマの「ニュー･ドキュメンタリー」が、写真とは何かを問いかけ見ることの本質に迫ります。（展覧会紹介文より）
カタログには、展覧会出品作品をフルカラーで収録。巡回先各美術館の担当キュレーターによる作品解説のほか、これまで手掛けた主要な写真集のレゾネなどを掲載。
写真を撮る／見るということは、現代の私たちにとってそれほど特別なことではありません。しかしこの｢ホンマタカシ ニュー･ドキュメンタリー」では、写真や、写真を取り囲む様々な表現・媒体のみならず、それらを見るという行為自体が挑戦的であたらしい可能性を孕むものとして映し出されています。ホンマタカシの探求を通して、普段何気なく目にする写真そのものへの興味や疑問が改めて掻き立てられるのではないでしょうか。「写真っておもしろい。」そう思える内容です。
