This is a rare, large-format art book that is now out of print.
Kachina Dolls are traditional figures representing spirits worshiped by the Hopi tribe, indigenous people of America, for generations in their land.
In 1955, Inokuma crossed the Arizona desert by car and, at the end of his journey in Santa Fe, encountered Kachina Dolls and was deeply captivated. He acquired two of these dolls at that time. Later, the architect Antonin Raymond, who had a close association with Inokuma during his time in America, gifted him a third doll. These three dolls are now part of the Inokuma Collection housed at the museum.
Twenty-four years after his visit to Arizona, in 1979, Inokuma, having just been discharged from the hospital after major stomach surgery, later recalled how he found comfort in the Kachina Dolls waiting for him at home.
Soon after his discharge, inspired by memories of his journey, he began depicting the myths of Arizona and the Kachina Dolls in several sketchbooks.
These works drawn with ink and brush were later published as a set of four art books.
Faithfully reproducing not only the colors and sizes but also the original format of the sketchbooks, this art book is of very high quality.
