猪熊弦一郎（1902-1993）の描いた「顔」をテーマに12点紹介いたします。
顔は、晩年における重要なモチーフの一つです。それまでは、丸や四角、三角などのシンプルな幾何学形や、意味をもたない不規則な形で構成した抽象画を描いていましたが、1988年に最愛の文子夫人に先立たれた猪熊は、妻の顔が出てくるかもしれないとマス目に人の顔を並べた絵を多く描くようになりました。次々に描いているうちに「顔もまた丸や四角の抽象形態の集まり」であり、「丸の中に目、眉、鼻、口をどう位置付けてゆくかがおもしろくなった」という言葉を残しています。その後、画面には、顔以外の具象物や抽象形態も加わり、それらが区別なく入り交じるようになりました。
猪熊の様々に変化してゆく表現をお楽しみください。
