"It takes Courage to Paint"
Drawn in by the striking sentence printed on a pink band, readers who turn the pages will discover the life story of painter Genichiro Inokuma, told in his own words.
He recalls memories of the town where he was born and raised, his encounters with great masters like Takeji Fujishima and Henri Matisse, and the discoveries and surprises he experienced in Paris and New York—cities that attracted artists from all over the world. Immersed in diverse environments and inspired by many people, Inokuma came to believe that in order to open up new, unknown realms of his artistic world, he had to go beyond conventions—and that required courage.
At the age of 76, Inokuma wrote:
"I've been painting what I love most for 57 years, ever since I was twenty. If this were an art school, I would have graduated over a dozen times. And yet, I still feel I haven't created a piece I can truly say is 'good enough.'"
This precious book is filled with the words of Inokuma, who spent his life running toward the unknown.
