It corresponds to the exhibition Lieko Shiga: Blind Date held from June 10 to September 3, 2017.
Lieko Shiga continues to explore the images that arise at the intersection between herself and society through photography. Born in Aichi Prefecture in 1980, she has been based in Miyagi Prefecture since 2008, where she carries out her creative activities. This exhibition begins with her 2009 series Blind Date, which features couples in Bangkok, and unfolds reflections and narratives around themes such as mourning, the origins of humanity, large-scale capital, and death.
In addition to photographic prints, the exhibition includes an installation composed of about 20 slide projectors. The flickering of the projectors in the space metaphorically represents life, darkness and light — opposites that coexist simultaneously in this world.
What is invisible to our naked eye? Shiga relies on photography to capture precisely that realm, establishing a photographic space that stays close to human life and observes society with the utmost honesty.
