In recent years, the creative work of people with disabilities has been gaining attention. Energetic pieces are being created at facilities and workshops across Japan. While painting and clay work are the main forms of artistic expression, one of the earliest efforts to foster painting practices began at the Mizunoki Dormitory in Kameoka City, Kyoto Prefecture. The painting class at Mizunoki Dormitory started in the mid-1960s, and since around 1978, it has continued to provide education that values sensitivity, aiming to nurture artists. This exhibition introduces art born from sharp perception rather than reliance on knowledge—art that emerges from the Mizunoki Dormitory.
